Who's playing vibes on this?
Hi All,
Fourth of July is coming up fast, and that means the July show is just before, on July 2. I'll play two different versions of "America," Mike Mainieri's from CD Crescent and Bob Masteller's recorded live at the Jazz Corner. I'm also paying my patriotic duty by playing the Modern Jazz Quartet and "The Watergate Blues," which they recorded on Echoes. I do hear the echo.
The first set is dedicated to the season. "Heat Wave," (Cal Tjader) "Summer Nights," (Bobby Hutcherson) and "Water Babies" (Joe Chambers).
Aimee Nolte has some great stuff on Youtube. I came across this lesson on Bill Evans' playing on Blue in Green. The "minimalist" piano style is really well-suited to the vibes for obvious reasons. I've attached a clip of me playing the intro.
It's beautiful. I'm in a Gary phase. Maybe it's because he's done. Very Sad.
Anthony Smith and myself had a great workshop at the California Jazz Conservatory! Great people and a great time!
We team up for our German workshop with Matthias from the Mallet Institute. It's a great workshop!
"Sophisticated Lady" by the great Duke Ellington. I've been working on this song this past week. Such a deep and beautiful composition. Some of my favorite versions are from Duke of course as well as from great pianists like Art Tatum, Keith Jarrett and Chick Corea.
This is my first real post to this site. It's just an audio from one of the first rehearsals of a song I wrote - "Cheyenne's Waltz!"
I haven't been an active member for a long time, but I'm hoping to change that. I thought I would start with a recent video of my quartet playing "footprints" at a local club. Please also check out my website and leave me some feedback. I've never made a site before and would welcome constructive criticism.
