Inexpensive way to improve the sound on video recordings

All consumer video recorders, or camcorders, produce good to excellent video, but usually terrible audio. I have an inexpensive Kodak Zi8 camera, which has an external mic-in port. I can get sort of ok audio when I use a good condenser mic plugged into the camera, but I've been hunting for an inexpensive way to improve that even more.

Jazz vibes in Belgium.....

Hey,

With the anouncement of a Tyler Blanton concert in my neighbourhood, I started thinking : " we are on our way...."

I got the feeling Jazz vibes playing in Belgium is slowly growing! In comparison with a few years back the vibes are coming above the surface.

While we never used to get jazz gigs with vibes, these times, every now and then concerts start to appear. In the music conservatories, percusion players choose more and more to start playing jazz on vibraphone, and they start their own trio's and quartets.

The Vibraphone Electric by Steve Shapiro

Cool stuff Steve is doing with pickups/effects. It sounds really good. Steve knows his shtuff. He had an awesome talk on mics at the Vibes Congress.

Steve, if you get some time, can you explain a little more than what the video covers. What pickups system are you using? I may have missed it, but are you mixing in mic'd sound with the pickups?

Thanks,
Barry
