Any Vibe Resolutions?

Yo guys,

Another great year with you all. I've learned and grown a lot from hanging out with all of you. I think we have an incredible 'think tank' here and I'm hoping and assuming that it's really helping the instrument as well as us as players. I know it does a ton for me!

I wonder if you guys have any vibe related resolutions for the new year?

Joe Hunt

Hey guys, Joe was mentioned a little while back. He was the drummer in the TV clip with Gary when they were playing with Stan Getz. Here's a photo of Joe that was taken on a gig with bassist Mark Carlsen and myself. The gig is at a nice Japanese restaurant on the outskirts of Boston. We have another night coming up tomorrow.

Joe is a special drummer. He really knows the history of jazz and all of the players. He can burn at a very soft dynamic level. He blows me away every time that we play.

NYC club report - L'Image

|
After missing the Chick and Gary show at the Blue Note this fall, I decided I had better get down to Iridium a few weeks ago to see L'Image (the reunion group featuring Mike Mainieri, David Spinozza, Steve Gadd, Tony Levin and Warren Bernhardt). I'm happy to report the group is better than ever, and out with some great new music.

Scales

I'm reading Marc Levin's book on theory and then also his one on voicings. He's a pretty hip cat! Here's a quote from his book:

Scales are the alphabet, not poetry, of music. You need to know the alphabet, grammar, vocabulary, spelling, and so on before you can write words, sentences, and ultimately poetry.
