Who wants to come and hang?

August 6th in the evening will be our final concert so we hope you can come or come back for that.

June 24 VW Blog!

Dana titled his blog with a date and I dig that. That means we can just title the blogs with the dates and talk about whatever! So great idea Dana.

Man I just made a John Adams radio station. You guys know him? I think he took the minimalist thing to a place that I really dig. I'm really into the music that that station plays.

Gino Vanneli Live - Can you recognize this vibist?

Guys,

Vibist Les Blachut sent me this link on an amazing Gino Vanelli live tune. He thought I could recognize the vibist! Haha!! I had no idea!! :o)

I made a little search and found that on the corresponding album the percussionist's name was John J Mandel. But as I couldn't find any picture of him, I can't be sure if it's him there.

But I'm sure some of you will help me and asnwer the question for Les.

Thanks!!

- M

PS: BTW, cooking vibes, huh? (starts around 5'35)

The Red Gag

Anybody have any specific info about this video of Red Norvo throwing his bars out onto the stage on this Benny Goodman show? BTW, that's Hank Jones on piano looking suprised. When I first saw this I was horrified, but I've come to understand that it was a gag. Love to hear more info about it. Very strange.

Who is Minsoo Lim?

Minsoo Lim arrived some 4 months ago on the site as subscriber. What makes him a bit different from most of us, is that he leaves in South Korea. We already have a few members from this country, but so little from Asia.

Some of us got in contact with him through Face Book. So I asked him if he could talk about him, and maybe about the specificities of his country as for Vibes, Jazz, Music in general, or just life.

Minsoo, please, tell us who you are!!

And... welcome on Vibesworkshop!

- Marie

Jazz is a wonderful journey

Hey VibesWorkshop,

I just wanted to share some thoughts here....
Tonight I was thinking about my vibes practicing, and jazz practicing more in general....
As you know, my set of vibes (my dear old Deagan from 1942) is not at my home anymore, but in the practice room. The thing is that I don't practice anymore at home. Before that, I didn't really practice at home, I simply couldn't get focused enough. That's why I got the practice space...

Anyway, I just figured out I had a MIDI piano, and maybe I could work on some things with it?

PAS Article July 2010 - The Healing by Ed Saindon

Hi everyone,

Here's an article which will be in the upcoming July issue of the Percussive Arts Society magazine Percussive Notes. The article is titled "The Healing" and details the recording session of Depth of Emotion which featured saxist Dave Liebman, drummer Mark Walker, bassist David Clark and myself on vibes, marimba and piano. The article also discusses the compositional and improvisational aspects of my original composition The Healing.

All the Things You Are (Milt's solo) by Charly

Hey guys!

Here I play a transcription of a Milt Jackson Solo to All The Things You Are.
Recording is 'Mostly MJQ - Disc 1'

Normally I always play with the recording, but this time I wanted to try to play without recording and without metronome.
The goal was that you can snip your fingers on 2 and 4 through the whol solo :-)

The tempo is a bit slower than the original...

Tell me if it works for you!?

best, Charly
