Caught Up in My Own Lesson! -V

Well, when I make up these lessons, they usually leave me with a lot to practice.

I've been playing probably a few hundred versions of Invitation over the last few weeks. It's a difficult tune to play solo. And I'm busting my ass on it, big time!!! It's really inspiring to know that while I'm practicing all these other guys are practicing also. I know when I'm practicing in the evening that Barryk is over at his place doing the same thing! That's pretty cool.

We ARE SAVED!! THE INSTRUMENT IS SAVED. THE BAND HAS ARRIVED

They are the Dodo's and they have vibes in their band.

And btw the Stevens grip will be the grip of the future.

We can all rest now. It's over. It will stop hurting soon and we will be able to hold our heads up high and proclaim 'I PLAY THE VIBRAPHONE'.

The Dodo'd sound really good. Our time has come people. Rejoice.

Now for those of you who don't know what we're talking about read the post under 'CHECK THIS OUT'.

Now on the serious side, I kind of dig them. I really like this song and I dig their vibe! And they actually saved up for the vibes! That's pretty cool!

All the Things You are by Christos Rafalides

Here is another video of Manhattan Vibes. I really love this intro he plays on All the Things. Well it's actually a really quick solo version of he whole tune in 7/8.

The rest of the video is more of a compilation of different parts of their concert.

The intro is also on their cd, so check it out. This has been on my transcribe list for a while... maybe I should get to it!

Blind Jazz Musicians

As some of you know, I work in an association for blind peole. Our neighbour is a school for blind teenagers where I sometimes go to attend "lunch break gigs". So I was really happy when Steve and Gary started talking about blind mallet players!

One of our former Secretary General wrote a book on blind musicians in history. I had a look at it, found no vibist, but the following names in the "Jazz" chapter:

- Jefferson "Blind Lemon": guitar / vocals (blues)
- Terry Saunders Teddell "Sonny": harmonica / vocals (blues)
