I hung with Victor Provost recently. We shot Pan lessons and played. Here's one of the tunes we jammed on.
Victor is starting panworkshop.com which will be part of vibesworkshop.com! So get your pans out (no pots).
I just posted a comment on another blog and mentioned that I studied Alexander Technique for a couple of years when I was in my late 30's. Then I thought it might be useful to some of the musicians here to know about this approach to improving posture and understanding physical movement. It is named after the man who developed it about a hundred years ago in Australia. He went on to teach and train people in his methods leaving behind a solid network of teachers around the world. It is quite popular with actors and singers, by the way.
here is a solo vibes version of a tune i wrote long time ago for a percussion ensemble.i got many recordings of this song played with different instruments and settings but never did a solo vibe performance cause it was too difficult for me to play the bass and the melody.it´s great for working on independence inspired by the video of ed´s blues and all of tonys lessons that deal with that. still it´s not perfect and i miss a lot of notes but as working process i thought it would be cool to post it on the level i can play it today...still it needs a lot of work.
So here's another video of my mentor, Steve Giordano. Again listen to him play. I think you can imagine playing most of this on the vibes. For me, this is where the solo playing comes from. We can learn a lot from the guitar.
Just imagine this was a set of vibes.
Greetings Vibes people
this site is great! I had no idea so many people are involved in playing mallet instruments. I am having a good time reading thru what is here.
I play a 1979 Deagan #594 vibes with Serna pickups. I love this instrument, and have never lost (1) pickup ever. It sounds great, I like the bar sizing and it has held up to a rigorous life, from world tours in road case to it's local rustic Suburu roadcase.
more soon!
thanks
