I don't know if you are familiar with the Ralph Peterson Fo'tet. The group has released multiple albums over the last 23 years with very few personnel changes. It featured Don Byron on clarinet and Bryan Carrot on vibes. Ralph has recently reformed his group.
Here's a version of Fats Waller's Jitterbug Waltz. We're playing it in Db versus Eb. Joe and I played this at our recital at Berklee this past summer. It's a fun tune to play on. There are some fantastic pianist versions of the tune from Art Tatum and Chick Corea.
Guys, here's a clip of Autumn Leaves (also with some reharm behind the melody). I used some reharm during the solo as well. Many players use a chromatic II-7 V7 on the 3rd bar. Bill Evans did some simple but effective diatonic passing chords from I to IV on the bridge (which I shamelessly copied).
There's a great version on YT of Gary playing Autumn Leaves when he was in Moscow with a saxist Igor Butman.
Hello malleteers (credit to Gary for that term which I thing is perfect), here's a clip of All The Things You Are with a quartet. I'm doing doing some minor reharm on the head behind the melody played by Lance. Making some of the minor chords Dom which makes the melody a #9 and altering the major chords to Maj 7 #5.
David Liebman is the man. I have heard lots of stories of him getting really dark with students, and who knows how true these claims are... but every time I have heard him speak on jazz or other topics he has been eloquent and polite. I found this "speech" of him talking on practicing. Nothing we haven't all heard before, but still a great reinforcement!

Hey guys, here's a clip of On The Sunny Side Of The Street from a recent gig with some nice players and friends. Lance Bryant on tenor, David Clark on bass and Jun Saito on drums. There are some loose spots here and there, but we had fun. No rehearsal, just call tunes on the gig type of thing. There are more clips that we'll be uploading as they are edited. This video shows part of what keeps me from practicing my beloved melodic minor scales and tunes for the jazz-ensemble class as well as the tunes for the jams with my buddies outside of that and let alone logging onto this site for months. The mission of the job is to give 59x 45min interactive concerts for school kids presenting "percussion". Criteria for accepting this:
- I feel more valuable, if I work and I want to work.
