The Vibesworkshop Chops Festival!

Ok, I think we've really worked hard on solo playing. I mean it's obvious some of us have and I assume some of you are working and not posting. Who knows though if you don't post. But I think those of us active on the site have gotten a lot out of all.

So let's start the Chops Festival. Etudes, exercises and more. Things that will help us build our technique.

What's Next?

I have an idea. how about an Etude/Technique/Gear Festival?

Let's work only on chops, and let's gather information on gear. Instruments etc.

Maybe some of you guys could do interviews of manufacturers (Drew??).

If there was an instrument maker near you, I could cover you expenses to get there. Take photos and interview people.

Off the top of my head is Balter and vanderplas of course. There's another instrument maker in U.S., begins with a D. Just a single guy I think.

Stick makers? Tuners. What's the guys name in Chicago, Gilberto!

Essay on Comping

I wrote this in 2006. I don't remember writing it and when I read it, it felt like I was reading it for the first time. But it describes my thoughts failry well, so I'll post it. I found a ton of stuff from 2006. I wasn't sure if I wrote it, but there were a lot of mispelled words. so it HAS to be me!

An essay on comping

I feel there are plenty of better compers out there than me. I would never presume I’m the best at anything in music. I’ve met too many amazing people. I think all we do is try to keep climbing the ladder, learn more, play more and so on.

When we come together Sh** happens.

Sorry for getting on a soap box here. but....

Look what happens when we all come together. The world is a better place in a small way. And that counts a lot. I always thought if I was nice to a stranger that I started a chain reaction of nice and if I was mean to a stranger I started a chain reacting of mean. 692 reads, I think we did some nice.

Behn Gillece Update

Hi all,

I'm sitting here on Monday afternoon, completely shattered from a weekend of rehearsals, paired with doubles on gigs. Needless to say, I don't feel like doing much, but I had some thoughts and observations lately that I wanted to share.

First of all, I would like to make more of a habit of sharing some experiences that may be interesting to people. I feel like I'm posting lessons, and not creating room for discussion enough; I promise I'll do a better job at that, haha!

Lamenting my old m48

man sometime you just lament about selling any instrument ... years ago i bought my first vibraphone which was in 1987. a new musser m 48 .. serial number was 153.. wow .. when i was on tour with 3 leg torso out of portland in 2004 the bar were stolen. we contacted musser at the time and they could no replace or allow me order a set of bars for that instrument. so we sold the frame and shortly after i moved from portland and took time off from the industry ..
