Hello Everyone!

I’m happy to announce that a project that I’ve been working on for years is finally a reality! I’ve recently launched the website: www.percussionandelectronics.com

PURPOSE
The website was created to facilitate the ability to discover and listen to music scores for percussion utilizing electronics as accompaniment. On the website you will find a large searchable database of works that aims to connect the percussionists with the composers and publishers. (Currently 240 pieces and growing)

1. dig up some lessons from the past.

2. You sign up here and tell me what 4 lessons you will do. A Friedman etude counts, btw. So you post here that you're in and then you post the 4 lessons you will do, posting each lesson each week (not earlier or all in 1 shot). You can't miss a week :-). (I'm pretty tough huh?)

3. They need to be somewhat challenging for you. Don't phone it in as us veteran jazz musicians say. I need to know you worked on the lessons and they helped you. The goal being you become a better mallet player :-).

Dana Sudborough a vibe player in Dallas, asked on Facebook why Don Byron had a cd called NO-VIBE ZONE with a picture of a vibe with the red circle and the line going through it. You know it. No smoking.

I forgot about this cd and saw it when it came out. It looks pretty negative about the vibes. Just don't know why he named it that. On the Facebook post they mention an interview.

So, in this chapter of mic wars, there is a clear winner and it is not the mics or the signal path. It is the Omega vibraphone. Tony brought his over to my place and we recorded a couple of short passes so I could work out some kinks in some of my new recording hardware without playing at the same time. The nearly complete lack of noise, the beautiful pure tone of the instrument, and Tony's playing together gave a perfect backdrop to test the mics, because all the tests sounded good.

Here's the gear involved...

Putting 4 mallets to a well written melody is a great way to work on 4 mallets! Also putting melodies to other lines, your solos, other melodies is also great.

The concept is how do you put accompaniment to your playing right?

So let's study this for a bit and see what happens, how this helps you.

I'll have a vibe hang at my house on Dec. 8th 1pm-3pm.
