Tony,
You're the absolute greatest! You've figured out how to do it all. I enjoy checking in with www.vibesworkshop.com every day now to see what's new and old in the vibe world. I get a lot of great new practice ideas and teaching ideas from your site.
You're an artist's artist and I hope your subscribers realize what a gem you are to our scene - especially that of the vibrapnone. Thanks for keeping at it to the point of this excellent web site!

i need those subscribers, i need the help. so thanks to all participating! all the pros hanging out and giving advice all the students working hard and giving back a little taste to the site! pretty cool!!! i'm excited and cautiously optimistic.
some people have written me upset saying i shouldn't charge for the lessons? WTF!!! the site doesn't support itself yet and the information is so valuable. in fact i lose money each month as it grows. look at the staff. what an insult to say that these guys aren't worth anything, huh?
my goal is to make money and fund stuff and really build all this up for all of us in the mallet world. will it happen... i don't know. but i work too hard to give my stuff away for free and i think joe, ed, steve, john, patty, tjaco and everybody else would agree.
now on the other hand if you convince my bank to let me mortgage slide, i'll open this puppy up for all!
who would want to take and not give back, that's such a gross concept to me. that's why there's an economic meltdown now. people are greedy.
win/win right? we'll see, wish us luck.
i think you do a good job of

i think you do a good job of providing some free stuff here - there should be no complaints
players really wanting to up their skills will benefit from getting those lessons that are for paying subscribers
they'll figure that out i think
this is new territory - i think the video lessons are a bit more valuable than just audio or pdf lessons - being able to see: body position, hand position, mallet position etc is very key to getting the skills
it's personal too
i'll be posting more video based lessons as time goes on

allowing for the "lag" period

I think you just have to allow for that "start-up" period of a year for the word to get out there. Not only is the observation correct about this site being a bargain compared to tuition cost as well as cost of private lessons, but there is another factor. Overall, there are few to no vibe teachers available to most students.
I look at it this way - many vibe teachers are actually marimba or xylophone guys who have limited feel for the vibes, or look at vibes as a jazz instrument and have limited interest from that angle. Nice people I'm sure, but it's like going to a piano teacher for organ lessons. Then you have prospective students who live in areas with limited access to teachers of any kind, period. If I lived in middle Vermont (a wonderful area, btw), where in the world would I find a vibraphone teacher without having to drive 100 miles? So I think there is still a tremendous untapped market in smaller cities, and it is just a matter of time for the word to get there.
I wonder what it would cost to advertise in Downbeat?
john yeah!

john you are the voice of reason!! you replies always make so much sense to me.
yeah i'm giving it time. i think it's hard work but in the end we'll have a nice community. just gonna take a lot of work.

i know from my drum students that many of them pay the same price for online gaming like world of warcraft or other computer games. if i compare that to this site...tonys subscribers get a lot more for their monthly payment and the best is i got tips and tricks and lessons for real life!.i am happy to be a subscriber and as said by the others you can´t get any lessons from a teacher that cheap in real live plus you support a great idea!

i've showed these emails to my partner he gets very nervous about having helpers in the core of the site because when there's a screw up, he's the guy that has to fix it.
our biggest problem here is organization. i wish one of you cats were super designers that really new drupal well, we could use a site redesign!
