take care of your lovely instrument

Forum Topic: leedy vibes

Hi all. This is my first post.
My friend Paul and I just came across and bought some nice vintage pieces. Pauly got a 40's? Deegan marimba and I got some '39? Leedy vibes. A friend of ours found someone with these vintage pieces, who wanted to get rid of them. They were very reasonable. I think we both felt like we were stealing them. I haven't seen Paul's marimba yet, but my vibes are beautiful. I spent about 10 hours going over them, polishing chrome, etc... here is a picure of a set that is almost identical to mine.

Forum Topic: How to Stop Ringing on Your Instrument?

So I thought I'd post on ways people fix up their instrument, especially the older ones. For instance ringing. I have in the past taken a piece of felt and tied it over the felt pad to stop the ringing. Even a few pieces to raise just that part.

Any other ways (besides replacing the pad)?

I bet you could use yarn and do something with that.

Forum Topic: Malletkat expanders

Hello,
I've recieved two expanders(octaves) for my malletkat.
I have 2 questions :
-is it possible to change the octave of the expander: I'd like to have one lower and one higher than the malletkat (specially because the expander cable is too short to connect them both in the lower register). If yes, wich menu is it ?

-I have recieved them without a picture or instruction on how to fix the metal bars under the malletkat(no screws neither) .
Tony, can you post an image of your connection (under the malletkat), and did you use the same screws ?

Forum Topic: M-48

What's with the m-48. I hung with vibist Tom Beckham last night and I couldn't believe he had the same experience as me. When I play my m-48 I have to move it around my floor to get it into a spot where the dampening will work. He does the same thing. I love the sound of the instrument. The bars are beautiful, but it's such a drag to play.

Any ways anyone know of to fix it?

Forum Topic: No maintenane, but background knowledge of the instrument anybody should know.

I think it might be a good idea to start posting items here on a regular basis, where the technical background of the vibes are explained. I've found that there are things many vibists don't realize.

I'll start off in a couple of days with a first topic as soon as work quiets down here at the company (we're preparing for PASIC with several new instruments).
