🎵 Play A Great Rhythm Changes In 3 Months – Week 13

Last week, we moved rhythm changes from B♭ into F, beginning our work on taking the concepts from this series into different keys.

This week, we're staying in F, but we're shifting our attention back to comping.

👉 More specifically, we're returning to the voicings from Week 1 and transposing them into our new key.

On paper, that sounds simple: take every voicing from B♭ and move it into F.

On the vibraphone, however, it doesn't always work that way.

In the final blues dampening etude, we explore the minor blues form. Please note that there are some common substitutions in this one that are used often in minor blues.

Expanding Vocabulary Over the Second A Section

In previous lessons, we explored the bridge of rhythm changes and how to apply those concepts to other tunes. We also examined one possible approach to the first A section, demonstrating how its harmonic movement reflects countless other standards. Now, let’s build on that by focusing on the second A section, incorporating some different harmonic choices and melodic vocabulary.
