Forum Topic: case(s) for 4 octave marimba bars??

hello. i recently acquired a DEAGAN 64 Imperial marimba (loving it!) and would like to see what if any options i have for cases for the bars. i'm not interested in a full set of cases for the frame/rail/resonators as i'm just gigging locally. but i would like a little more protection (and something a little classier)than carry them around in a wrapped up blanket.

thanks.

Forum Topic: Any DEAGAN ELECTRAVIBES for sale?? - bought a XYLOSYNTH and its not happening!

Hey I will never give up my amazing Musser One-Nighter but getting the components up and down stairs and into other tight spaces doing gigs in NYC galleries and performance spaces, I have been seeking some relief via a small, electronic instrument. In my 50s now and I am developing an assortment of shoulder problems. I have tried Malletkat and didn't like the pads and so after investigation bought the XyloSynth.

Forum Topic: Resonator material on war era Deagan??? How do they sound...adverse effect?

So, I just recently learned that Deagan used some other non metal material for their resonators for their WWII era marimbas!

Does anyone know what they were made of or how they sound? I've been corresponding w someone who's a distance away and has one for sale, but w/o being able to play it/hear it...well, i have some serious reservations about what this instrument might sound like.

thoughts?

thanks in advance.

Forum Topic: Trying to identify this vibraphone Kawai D-592-1

Hello all,

I am new to this forum and site. I apologize in advance if I am posting at the wrong forum or if this question is inappropriate.

My name is Bill and I am a rank beginner when it comes to vibraphones. When I was young (13 or so), I used to bang around on my friends viraphone. However, nothing serious. That being stated, I am not a rank beginner to music. I can read play (albeit so-so) the piano. I like jazz. Due to arthritis, I am thinking about going to a less stressful instrument.

I live in Japan and I have come across a vibraphone for auction. You can see it here:

Forum Topic: Looking at used M55 - advice?

Apologies if this is in the wrong forum, I wasn't sure which one would be best...

I'm going to look at a used vibraphone soon that I might be interested in purchasing, and am trying to put together a mental list of things I need to check out before I decide to buy it or not. What are some things I should look for when I go to check the instrument out? I'm especially thinking of things that might be less obvious; of course I will play it, test out the motor, etc. Thanks!

Forum Topic: Damper on a M55G

Hi,
I am really new to vibes so if it is a stupid question sorry for that :-)

I bought a M55G (ok, I am a beginner, but it was a long dream...).
The mechanics of the new instrument is lovely except the dampening. The upper register is not damped much and the lower sounds like "tock tock" if I hit them. I tried to loosen and tighten the damper with that screw. The only difference is, that the lower bars are more like tock tock or nothing is damped anymore.
Any suggestions...?

Thank you!!

Holger

Forum Topic: How old is this m55?

i have a nice m55, and i'm curious to know what year it was made. my understanding is that you can date an m55 by looking at some numbers under the middle A natural bar.

here's what I see when i look at mine:

10 72 92

440

the 440 i'm guessing means it's A=440 rather than A=442. but I don't know what to make of the 10 72 92.

is the vibe from 1972, or 1992, or ????

sorry if this has been answered already someplace on vibesworkshop...

Forum Topic: M75 "Thumping"

Greetings,

I'm back at my lovely M75. So I have been noticing there is a pronounced 'thumping' on all of the black keys from middle Bb to the end of the instrument range. When I say 'thumping' when I hit any of those black keys, whether the dampening bar is pressed on or off, there is a annoying thump - along with the bar note.

This thumping only seems to affect the black keys from middle Bb upwards. None of the white keys seems to be affected.

Things I have tried to resolve the thumping:

Forum Topic: Replacing posts in Musser M58

I am helping to refurbish a used Musser M58 vibe for my daughter's high school band. Several of the hook and saddle posts were broken off, with the root (to use a dentist term) still stuck in the mounting hole. We managed to extract them with some difficulty, and noticed that there was some glue in the bottom of the holes which was what made the posts so hard to pull out. We are waiting for some replacements, I am thinking we should pot them into the holes with something similar to mount them firmly in the frame.
