I have been checking out the Gyil players and thinking a lot about what they do. I don't know how far i'll dive into it but I dig it a lot! I might actually try and transcribe some stuff, we will see. But I wanted a first try at importing…

The band actually changed its name to Brasilia, but there were some videos posted here a while back of a live concert (Double Rainbow, Triste, etc) when the band was called Samba Jazz Syndicate. The recording features some beautiful…

Had never heard this little gem. Tough for me to play. Ver 1 plays the 4 chords of the bridge as closed as possible. Want to compare to opening them up per Tony's suggestions. Also, added a good external microphone to my Audacity…

I played this on the KAT. It's a stride vibes etude. I stuck to just the chords so you could see how the sticks move and the way the bounce goes. I also slowed it down so you could hear clearly. The tempo should be a little quicker.

Here's a very simple chord study. 1. Play the melody. Get the sound of the tune in the room. 2. Play the etude. I added a bass part without vibes. First time through is guide tones. Here the tune? Second time through notice the guide…

I love many of Johnny Mandel's tunes. I think this one was written for the film The Sandpiper. The theme is so well known that all you have to do is state it once and then feel free to take liberties with the rest of the melody. Try to get…

Lesson with ideas for working on Major7#5 chords. A good place to start if, like me, you feel like you don't always have much to play over them.
