David and I have been playing together for over 10 years now. A couple things I know, 1. I'm a good vibe player, 2. David is a master. So I got to play and study with him for over 10 years. Talk about the instrument, talk about what we called real estate (who's playing where, stay out of each others way). Talk about chords and voicings and lines and so many other things. What an amazing experience for me this was! This is our second cd and it's dedicated to David Friedman. It was finished before covid. And to be honest, was supposed to be released on Resonator Records which is Malletech. They are so busy, it felt like it was going to take forever, so I said to David and Leigh, I'll put it out. The CD is dedicated to Dave Samuels. We all know Dave Samuels and how great he was! They played together for about 40 years I think. Wow! And they played so great together.
The vibes are a very difficult instrument to play duo with and sound good. I have played with quite a few vibe players and most of the time it was difficult to make music on the vibes. Imagine both vibe players playing 4 mallets in the same octave. That's 8 mallets in the same octave and most of the time it sounds terrible! David and I spent quite a few years, ironing all this out.
Double Image was originally 2 vibes. But they switched to vibes and marimba to have two distinct instruments. This took a lot of work for David and I to do.
