I am on the cd label Steeplechase now and I have become buddies with the owner.
We are having amazing talks about his recordings that go back to 1972. Lately it's been of Walt Dickerson. He sent me this picture of Walt from his solo recording on Steeplechase from 1977.
There is also a duo album with Sunra. Nils told me Sunra wore headphones and listened to a ball game whiler they recorded the duo. That's crazy but then he was!

A decade or so ago, I was fortunate to meet his daughter Liz (same name as his her mother/wife). She told me that her favorite recording her father ever did was Bacon and Eggs. I had not paid a lot of attention to that track, but decided to transcribe it and a few others to give to her and her mom in his memory.
It's really pretty amazing compositionally. He takes the same motif and, much in the manner that Thelonious Monk or Sonny Rollins would often do, blows it out into a whole raft of variations without really changing the melody itself. To me, it is a work of melodic development much like what we know of Mozart, just hipper... enjoy.
Please only use this for educational purposes; this is a copyrighted performance and I can assure you that Walt and his family did not get rich from it. If there is ever any more money to come from this work of art, it deserves to be directed to them. Thanks.
Here's a link to Bacon and Eggs
