Exciting New Solo Vibraphone Literature from Christos

I just wanted to post a congrats to Christos (Rafalides) for releasing his new suite for solo vibraphone, Reaching For Sindhu. I've had a chance to listen to the piece and check out the sheet music... and it's a really great piece of music! Here are the links to both the video (where Christos explains various elements and performs the piece), and also his website where the music is available, in both digital and hard copy formats. Check it!

Upcoming vibes shows in the NYC area...

Fellow vibe-heads, no shortage of "good vibes" in NYC these days! Mark Sherman, Steve Shapiro and Joe Locke have upcoming shows, check it out:

http://www.nycjazzvibes.com/event-schedule.php

While you're at it, please take a look around the site (nycjazzvibes.com). I welcome feedback, and, I'm hoping to add a podcast very soon, maybe a monthly featured mallet artist that we will profile.

...and when you're in NY or nearby, hope to see you at a vibes show :)

Jazz Marimba -Deagan Imperial 3 Octave

Hey All,
For years I have wanted a marimba to play on occasional gigs and to have in my studio. But I didn't want a giant instrument that would take up a ton of room and I really didn't want to have to carry around a bunch of bars (at the two ends) that I only use occasionally.
The other day I had a Craigslist feeling and sure enough there was a 3 octave (interestingly G to G) Deagan Imperial for a few hundred bucks.

Joe Locke - "Love Is A Pendulum" teaser

Really looking forward to getting Joe's new recording "Love Is A Pendulum". Joe was here at the house in January with Gustavo and I for a nice weekend hang of playing, cooking and conversation. It was a lot of fun and very productive since Gustavo and I got a chance to pick Joe's brain about his improv concepts and what he's playing and working on. Joe gave us a sneak preview of the new recording and we were blown away. The recording is inspiring and superb in terms of the writing, playing and production. This will be a gem for sure and I can't recommend this recording enough.
