After listening to Gary Burton's album Alone At Last, here are some of my thoughts.
Hello all,
I've been playing around more with stride recently and thought I'd share a recording of the standard "After You've Gone." I'm also trying something new, and decided to (loosely) transcribe this recording and put it for sale on my website! I may do a lesson on this stuff if there's enough interest. You can find more info here:

Here is an etude based on the mixolydian scale, or we could say based on a dominant chord.
It starts on G7 and goes through the cycle of 4ths every two bars.
Play the etude.
Find a lick over one of the chords and memorize it and then play it over each dom chord transposing it into each new key.
Play your own stuff over this. There is a version with just bass.
Play the chords over it instead of lines. Play chords behind my solo.
I hope you see that you can do so many things with a little material.
One of my favorite standards!
A trio recording I did recently.
Over the last week, I’ve been stuck in bed with a fever from COVID, so what else was there to do but listen to music? (Rhetorical question) ...I began pondering whether what I doing was a waste of time. WTF? Was my fever making me irrational? Of course, listening was great to do, so what was going on?
Here’s what I busted myself for doing: just lying there enjoying what I was listening to and letting it roll over me; I wasn’t in analytical or critical mode, nor was I trying to learn music.
I love playing duo with David. But also I love playing with Behn and now Oliver.
Check out Oliver two years ago (2020) and then 2022.
This is a performance of my quartet, shortly before I recently left Colorado and returned to California. The three tunes are:
Very Early - 0:00
Laurie - 8:12
Bill's Hit Tune - 10:50
