I wrote this in 2006. I don't remember writing it and when I read it, it felt like I was reading it for the first time. But it describes my thoughts failry well, so I'll post it. I found a ton of stuff from 2006. I wasn't sure if I wrote it, but there were a lot of mispelled words. so it HAS to be me!

An essay on comping

I feel there are plenty of better compers out there than me. I would never presume I’m the best at anything in music. I’ve met too many amazing people. I think all we do is try to keep climbing the ladder, learn more, play more and so on.

Blue in Green (solo vibes) - Ed Saindon

Here's a short clip of Blue in Green that I recorded on an M55 from 1968 that I picked up last year. It still needs some tweaking here and there with the dampening system, but it's a lot better than what it was. It was in pretty bad shape when I got it. The bars from this time period were beautiful. They speak so quickly and sound great.

Scales: Mixolydian and Lydian Dominant Scales, all 12 keys.
Tunes: Oleo, I Got Rhythm, Cottontail, Anthropology, Moose the Mooch, Wail.
Assignment: Pick a rhythm changes tune to learn. 1st chorus play the melody, 2nd chorus comp through changes using a mixture of open and close voicings.3rd chorus, improvise a solo.
