sharing his amazing night of music with you all .. over the last couple months I've been working with the great percussionist from spyro gyra Gerardo Velez .. he invited me to be featured on his 2nd night at the blue note in hawaii .. we performed afro blue.. i did a little intro upfront before the band kicked in ,, the axe i used for the gig was the Malletkat double marimba sound ... bring quick setup and awesome for small stages ..

hey,
i just was asked to arrange some pop tunes for percussion ensemble. i tried to figure out a good marimba comping for billy jean by m. jackson. since we got only vibes,marimba and xylo as voices i need to put as much in it as possible. so i stumbled on this cheap sounding but very hard to play independence thing (at least for me)....on piano this would be so easy :)

would you like to play it fast for 4 minutes also on different chords? :)

I'm hoping members will be able to help me out with some information I need for some materials I'm writing.

Working on the promotion of these brand new publications of 'Mallet Ensemlbe' music.
I arranged/composed these 6 pieces through a commission from 'Zeltsman Marimba Festival' (ZMF) in 2013. They are written for two shared marimbas and a vibraphone (5 performers).
They got published by MRL MUSIC and they are available at

I have set the MalletKat Pro on "marimba" User Kit 28 for SouthOfTheBorder, and on "steel drums" User Kit 29 for Margaritaville. For the rest of the gig it was set on "vibes" User Kit 36, which has sustain and dampen functions. The midi sounds are self-contained in the keyboard, and the speaker box is a little CUBE-20X. It's not much of a speaker, but in an upper register, it doesn't matter. And fidelity, in a room full of folks eating dinner and playing with a 14-piece band, is not a major concern.

The world class vibes continue this Friday in Brooklyn, with an amazing lineup of talent...
