In A Sentimental Mood by Duke Ellington - Solo Vibraphone

I've been listening to the great pianist Art Tatum for the past few weeks while commuting to Boston to teach at Berklee. I hadn't listened to Tatum for quite awhile. I listened to all of the tracks from the Solo Masterpieces. Still unbelievable playing and fresh. The refined touch, sound, fluidity, harmonic richness, reharm, chromaticism within the harmony, the stride and 10ths in the left hand, ...there's so much in each track. Anyways, here's a little nod to Art Tatum with this rendition of Duke Ellington's great composition "In A Sentimental Mood".

Four Parker Licks you should know! -V

Hi Guys this month i'm going to do a lesson about bebop licks. I took four Charlie Parker licks and I transposed them in different key in order to get familiar with them. The purpose is that they become part of our vocabulary. Is important to focus not only in the notes and the relationship with the chords, but also to get the right phrasing for the Master like Parker Dizzy or Bud Powell!

Warren Wolf Convergence

I did a little interview recently for the radio, about Warren Wolf's new album 'Convergence'. It's a really nice record, full of humour and personality, and features a stellar band (Christian McBride, John Scofield, Brad Mehldau and Jeff Tain Watts), so check it out if you haven't heard it already.

My interview is right at the end of the programme: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b07jxrc0
