If you're in the Philly Area and free tomorrow afternoon, come check out the Essentially Ellington jazz fest at Temple University. There should be a lot of great HS bands there as well as some awesome clinics with local pros, I'm playing around 2 with the Pennsbury concert Jazz Band, we'll be playing Three and One (thad jones), Cherry Juice (thad jones), and Lightnin' (ellington). Hope to see ya there!
Thanks for Randy Sutin. This is heavy! Wait until you hear it!
Download the PDF, add in the chords and play the solo. Notice how we can hear the tune in the solo. Check out some of the more interesting notes with the chords to find out what extension the note is. Then finally why not try to make your own solo over the tune!
BTW - I'm learning Sibelius and did the solo in one pass using flexitime!
Hi Workshoppers:
If you're looking to celebrate both St Patrick's Day and the vibraphone this Sunday, I have the spot for you. My band, Nós Novo, will be playing a concert of mainly Irish folk songs and tunes at a house concert at Dupuy's Landing in Chelsea from 3-5pm. All details are below. Would love to see you there.
The Band will be:
JS - vibes, percussion, some singing

This month of February has been very rich with experiences! First our winter workshop took place in Germany. All first archives bellow. Then we finished our great lesson series with How Deep Is The Ocean and switched to our new Tune Of The Month: Satin Doll! Then a few of us participated in our very first online skype lesson with Tony. All testimonies in the discussion section… and more! Enjoy!
Part 3 we are.
The puzzling is over. I think I've got all my pieces now. I also listened to the original and noted the structure it has. + I drew a chart of the energy build up the song has to me. (see pdf, lowest chart.).
Now I have to work on it.
-starting with the Metronome
-pedalling and dampening
-trying to improve my chords and soloing
- keeping rhytm
- balancing the build up
.....
Now it's time to build the song.
I did make a 1th rough one today as a starter. It is really bad in all : wrong notes, bad pedal and dampening, tempo sucks, rhytm is wrong.
