I've been talking with Randy Sutin about recording the vibes. Randy has hooked up with a great recording engineer here in the philly area. He's going to do an in depth look at different ways of recording the vibes. It looks like we're going to video it and he's going to really prepare something great.
Yah Randy!!! This will really be valuable and cool for subscribers to check out. Maybe Randy will comment here and tell us a little about Dahoud.
In another thread (see "Check This Out", above), there was discussion about mallet wraps. I wanted to create a separate thread for this discussion.
Here is a site that sells mallet wrap.

Joe Locke talkes to Nico about an exciting new development at the Vanderplas Baileo factory. They are designing an all new midi system for the Mvibe as well as for acoustic vibraphones!
I was replacing the threshold on one of my exterior doors. Took the threshold out of the package. It was aluminum, so I'm thinking, hmmmm, what's the pitch? I can really use a low-E. Uhh, no, but I have the start to making a Gyil. lol
In case you ever wanted to know what a 36 inch aluminum door threshold sounds like, I've enclosed a sample.

This is a sample of something I recorded today. It's a short sample of me playing along for a demo, but I noticed something that John Piper mentioned after one of my earier recordings. There is a low thumping noise coming from the pedal. In the second sample I did some EQ, and it kind of worked...
I'm using a Zoom H4 that goes into an EMU soundcard that goes to my laptop.(you might also hear some laptop noise...)
How to adjust your time settings.
If you notice when you post something or when you write something in the shout box(you can see the time a shout was entered by holding your mouse over it!) that the time it displays is incorrect, you have to adjust your personal timezone setting on your account page. Here is how to do this:
Step 1: Go to your account. This is the link on the left that says: My Account
I'll be building this section with Mario Deciuttis and others. So Check back for more tutorials and lessons.
