Has anyone used the Transcribe! software program?

One of my professors is assigning a lot of transcriptions (not just jazz; it's a class on various world musics) and suggested we buy the Transcribe! software program. Has anyone used this? Is it worth spending money on as opposed to using something free like Audacity? Most students in the class don't do much transcribing, so I've got an advantage since I've been transcribing jazz licks. I've always transcribed by ear and been fine with that so I'm hesitant to spend money on a program when I don't even use the free stuff.

My mic set up in my little home studio

Here's my mic set up. You can see the specially designed plexiglass PZM boundary I had made many years ago. It's shaped in a stereo configuration. I really like the concept of PZM. Here's what I know about it. I think the "PZM" (pressure zone microphone) was discovered in the 1980s. You can research it but I got my information from crown engineers. Crown owned the patent or patent rights. I'm writing from memory so it may not be completely accurate. The way I understand it, the "pressure zone" was discovered in the '80's. Here's how it was explained to me.

Jazz is

So, I just spent a week or so out in the San Francisco area. It was really nice...

Saturday morning, I went out to get some coffee and came back to my hotel. Standing there, waiting for the elevator, I was enjoying that they were playing a Sonny Rollins recording as the music in the lobby of the hotel.

The elevator doors opened and a young guy, maybe about 30 or so, and his two kids got out. The little girl put her hands on her ears and said, "Daddy, that is wierd music. What kind of music is that?"

Easy way to build your own Sound Baffles

I was fixing up one of the rooms in my house to be a dedicated room for drumming. As I started building the sound baffles to help control the sound, I realized that this would be a great "Quick Tip" video to share with others. So, I started recording and explaining as I went. I spent the day putting this together. It's only my second video like this and I learned a ton about editing and camera placement (I learn from mistakes seen here). Regardless of the clamp above my head, the poor editing and camera work, I hope it's useful. It was definitely a great practice video.

My Electric Trio in NYC tonight

Time

Hey Folks,
I rarely do this, but just wanted to make a quick announcement that if you're in the NYC area tonight my Electric Project will be performing at Cornelia St. Cafe. This is a fun group where I play malletkat and synthesizers. I'll be joined by Sam Minaie on electric bass and Ari Hoenig on drums. One set at 8:30pm.

That's why Tony is so great by Dimitrios Angelakis

The reason I am saying that Tony Miceli is so great is that he managed to gather all the vibraphone players in this congress. At first I thought this never could happen and it did because deep inside us we all trust Tony and we think that he is a great player and person. Ofcorse everybody has its own purposes when doing something but at the bottom level no one would show to this meeting if they didn't trust him. I don't know how was the congress since I am still in Greece but one thing I know is that this was a huge event and we are all lucky to know him.
