Earl Scruggs died today. He was the Charlie Parker of the banjo. He was one heavy guy. I got to see him play once when I was a little kid. Way before I even played music. RIP, Earl
Hey guys, spoke with M-N today about what's been taking up my time. Between Berklee, teaching at home and gigs, writing books has been keeping me busy. The improv book is finished and came out to 21 chapters spread out over 4 volumes. We're almost ready for the production of Volume 1. I'm here today at the house tweaking a few chapters. It seems like this project has been going on forever. Here's the breakdown of topics:
Chord Scale Theory
Chord Scale Application and Practices
Harmonic Practices
Chord Tone Soloing
Tension Resolution
Upper Structure Triads
Triad Pairs
I got this one from James Walker. Oh man...
These were my teachers at USC, where I did my undergrad. I love how they play the head . Check out those lines!!! Diggin' this.
PS- the break is not F7 hahaha. Can you figure it out!?
I was showing Marie this this morning. I dunno how familiar everyone is with the 1 o'clock, but they are worth checking out. Check out this incredible composition by their director, Scott Wiest.
Jordi comes from Tenerife in the Canary Islands where temp never goes below 19 degrees Celsius 66 Farenheit see snow for the first time in Sassenheim. It all happens right here folks.
Has anyone heard of Jeremy Kittel? He is a member of Turtle Island String Quartet. He's one of the best fiddle players I have ever heard. His other group (Jeremy Kittel Band) came to Columbia Friday for a concert. I was blown away. Below is a link of his arrangement of Hendrix's 'Hey Joe'. I will let the music do the rest of the talking for how incredible this guy is.
Everybody wish Marie-Noëlle a happy birthday!!
Happy Birthday Marie!!
Cu soon!
