Good evening,

I already said hello in the shoutbox, but how much can you tell in 1 sentence.....

I live in Belgium and studied percussion as a kid. Back then I really loved the sound of the xylophone, so I told myself I would buy one the minute I could afford it.(Which I did when I had a steady job for a while). But in contrast with owning one, I completely neglected it for years. It was only when my wife and I bought a house that I took it up again several years ago. And due to having kids, and renovationworks it was with ups and downs.
But then I started to notice I really prefered listening to Vibraphones, I missed the abilitie to play longer notes, I missed the sound of vibes. So I needed the shift.

I found a 2nd hand vibraphone which I could afford, (they also wanted to make me deal with taking over my xylophone). And since then I never was so motivated to play on a daily basis. I'm completely hooked. I feel guilty not to have played in a day. (although my time is limited with a daily job, house to renovate and 2 kids to raise...).

I came across some tutorials from Gary Burton which really made me think : "Why didn't they teach it to me like this before". And checking his website I saw he recomended vibesworkshop.com.

I know there is a school section on the site, but I'll first look around here for a while. I absolutely love the enthousiasme hanging around here. The tons of information. Really WOW.
I feel like a kid in a candystore, not knowing yet which candy where to find.

Currently I'm working with 2 books. 1 about damping and pedalling, another to improve 4 mallet techniques. And beside that I improvise a bit. So for the studying, I feel I have my hands full with these 2 books, but one day I will be done with them.

So anyway,
Now you all know a bit about me, and I'm sure I found the perfect place for me.

see you all,
Stefan.

What a good idea to introduce yourself: I think more newbies should do that!! Great first post!

I'm Marie and I live in France. I help Tony on the European side to take care of the site. So here are few suggestions if this heps:
- If you want to have a look around the site, click on the "V-BOOKS" tab where most posts are categorized.
- If you want to be sure not to miss the latest posts, just click on the "Recent Activity" Tab.

Now, as you can read below: you are in the right place to share your passion for the instrument, improve your playing, get answers to most of your questions,... and have fun!!

Looking forward to it!

Marie
