I had ordered the Peter Gunn CD by the Harmonie Ensemble of New York and was more than pleased! This is a fitting tribute to the originator of TV crime jazz, and, according to Donald Fagen of Steely Dan, "The high priest of Hollywood cool," Henry Mancini. Lew Soloff, Lew Tabackin and Ronnie Cuber on trumpet, tenor saxophone and baritone saxophone respectively, enhance this new recording with their solo turns on the original arrangements and orchestrations first recorded 56 years ago. The vibes work on the CD is outstanding!

Personnel: Billy Novick - clarinet, Mark Carlsen - bass, Steve Langone - drums, Ed Saindon - vibes
Exciting day for me today. I was officially added to the faculty of the Hawaii youth percussion ensemble, in Honolulu, Hawaii. I had a chance to work with these kids back in February and they are truely amazing ... my duties with the ensemble will be private Vibraphon and jazz lessons, plus helping prepare the students on all facets of percussion in preperation to concerts, ect ..
very blessed to have been allow this opportunity ..
An interesting hour-long concert from the early 1990s.
Mostly clean version of what I played in at the UDel Workshop last month
Hey everyone!
I've landed quite a few gigs this year, and the fact that they keep coming made me realize there's a lesson here for newish vibes players. When I joined VWS I wasn't brave enough to do what I am now, so I'm writing this for anyone who is like I was. Here's my timeline:
-Two years ago, I didn't play out much. The Albany jazz scene is small but it exists, I just didn't think I was "good enough" to hang. It seemed like an impenetrable wall I could only break through if I memorized 50 tunes, learned modes, altered chords, tritone subs, etc.
Dedicated to the great Charlie Haden

Ok let's move to another TOTM.
How about:
All the Things You Are
and
Prince Albert
Do you know about these tunes? Prince Albert is a contrafact of All the Things You Are. That is same chords but new melody.
Prince Albert is a great bebop tune and GREAT to play through all the keys.
So you're studying one set of chord changes, but two tunes.
So get ready for some fun lessons!
