This is a clip from the jazz workshop i presented in Honolulu, Hawaii this February. the youths in the workshop are from a very talented Middle School Percussion ensemble and really soaked up the concepts .. Hi everyone
One small sample from my latest gig in Philadelphia.
Thanks for watching!
Hey,
With the anouncement of a Tyler Blanton concert in my neighbourhood, I started thinking : " we are on our way...."
I got the feeling Jazz vibes playing in Belgium is slowly growing! In comparison with a few years back the vibes are coming above the surface.
While we never used to get jazz gigs with vibes, these times, every now and then concerts start to appear. In the music conservatories, percusion players choose more and more to start playing jazz on vibraphone, and they start their own trio's and quartets.
Cool stuff Steve is doing with pickups/effects. It sounds really good. Steve knows his shtuff. He had an awesome talk on mics at the Vibes Congress.
Steve, if you get some time, can you explain a little more than what the video covers. What pickups system are you using? I may have missed it, but are you mixing in mic'd sound with the pickups?
Thanks,
Barry
Here's a little clip of My electric trio show this last week. Please comment and share if you dig it. Thanks,

Solo Vibraphone Playing on Alone Together
Here are a few things that I'm using in this clip:
Improv Related:
Superimposed Maj 7 #5 chords: on the bridge, we can apply superimposed Major 7 #5 chords over the harmony in the bridge. The superimposed Maj #5 chords emphasize the tensions of the underlying harmony.
A -7 b5 - Eb Maj 7 #5
D7 - Gb Maj 7 #5
G Min - Bb Maj 7 #5
G-7b5 - Db Maj 7 #5
C7 - E Maj 7 #5
F Min - Ab Maj 7 #5
I am really interested in finding out when the Mallettech Omega frame will be available without the bars or Vibrato system?
Mallettech does not seem to answer emails sent via their Mostly Marimba website.
Hey Folks,
I rarely do this, but just wanted to make a quick announcement that if you're in the NYC area tonight my Electric Project will be performing at Cornelia St. Cafe. This is a fun group where I play malletkat and synthesizers. I'll be joined by Sam Minaie on electric bass and Ari Hoenig on drums. One set at 8:30pm.

The band actually changed its name to Brasilia, but there were some videos posted here a while back of a live concert (Double Rainbow, Triste, etc) when the band was called Samba Jazz Syndicate. The recording features some beautiful Brazilian tunes like Cafe com Pao and Na IIha De Lia, No Barco De Rosa (On Lia's Island, In Rosa's Boat)…and great guitarist Bruno Mangueria. Also, a tune of mine (Fresh Biscuits) which is not Brazilian.
If interested below are links to iTunes and also my sound cloud that has some samples of the cd.
Best, Rusty
