Here's something I'm posting that I think helps students to understand how different keys relate to each other (modes, major keys, relative minor etc). It also helps teachers when teaching it.
This is a pretty hard etude. At the time of writing this, I just stumbled on it. I had forgotten all about it. So I'll need to check it out again. I remember it though. It was for a students who was studying the blues.
I can easily post the midi file so you can get an idea, and then maybe myself or PATTY will learn it and we'll video it and put it up!
I don't have sticking on it yet. Just thought I'd post it for the advanced guys.

Here's the lead sheet to the Vince Guaraldi tune. It's not the etude, but this is what I'd hand the band and we'd follow it. It's the simplest breakdown of the tune and then everyone adds whatever they want. You know just like the Real Book tunes.
Barryk asked me to talk about how I composed the Vince Guaraldi piece.
Well, I'm not a 'real' composer, so I'm not experienced in developing themes and other techniques that a real composer would use. But I have written a few pieces and arranged a bunch of things.
