Practicing the beautiful composition "Emily" by Johnny Mandel. Of course inspired by the brilliant version of the great Bill Evans.
A little rendition of "In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning" before teaching a long day at Berklee. Thanks to the great pianist Keith Jarrett for the inspiration and nice changes.
Aloha, This is Scale exercise concept i have been developing of the last year. The concept is to be able to " call upon" any part of the scale at any time.
concept of this idea is to start on the tonic of the scale. go up to the 7th degree and skip the repeated tonic and land on the 9th.. once you get to the 9th degree you descend down the scale in question to the 2nd degree and repeat the cycle ... ascending and descending til you have worked thru the entire scale ...
Enjoy
Trying to get playing again! Can't wait to go through this book. Thanks vibes workshop for motivating me :-) I don't think I got the dynamic (phrasing) just right – Mf a little too strong in the beginning.. Thanks for listening!
Trying to get the vibraphone to sing again (been a long time) excited to get back into the Friedman book :-)-jj
...just a little solo version of this very popular tune - recorded during practicing...
Have fun!

Excerpt of Chega from our local gig last Saturday night.
I was looking through a friend's photos and it reminded me of my solo vibe version of "It Might As Well Be Spring" that I recorded back in 2006. I hope you enjoy the added visual by my good friend Mark Bennett.
