While looking through old files of background material for my Ph.D. Dissertation (1976) on the New York Jazz Community, I came across the program from a 1975 concert by David & David that I attended. I remember speaking with Dave Samuels afterward since there weren't many instances of anyone playing marimba in a jazz context, which both did regularly. I don't recall speaking with David Friedman, although I might have, briefly.

tony, as you know, I'm a huge fan of your swing feel!! how did you work on that. listening and playing I guess hm?

I'm up in the mountains of Pennsylvania this week and I brought a bunch of gear. I put some thoughts down on practicing 2 5 1 licks and wrote the licks out.
