Mic Wars... the saga continues

Last October, I posted about the experiences I was having at MorningStar Studios learning about recording vibes with ribbon mics and the surprisingly rich sound Glen was able to get with me sequestered in a vocal booth. Some things have changed here at home since then that I would like to share.

Glen rebuilt his drum booth. He put in all new acoustic treatment panels and gave me the old ones, so I now have a much more fully treated space in which to record that is much closer to the vocal booth experience.

What's It All About?

Hey Everyone,
There's a hard-copy magazine down here in Hilton Head called Local Life. It's a beautiful glossy monthly that is widely read. In the April issue there is an article on me by writer Carolyn Males. Carolyn went above and beyond to learn about the vibraphone before interviewing me and she showed her in-depth understanding in writing it. She came from a musical family but the vibes were totally new to her. It was her idea to include photos of Lionel Hampton and the instrument, which makes it well-rounded.

Did you know (studio stuff on a tight budget)

Did you know you can purchase old iphones to use for your camera set up?

I shared my ideas for sound control using shipping blankets at less than 10 bucks per blanket in a previous VW post and now I'm upgrading my studio with curtain sheers draped over the blankets for a more finished look ($20.00 per 96" x 60" panel). I'm still waiting for the rest of the sheers to arrive.
