Window of opportunity...
To make a long story short, I am couch-crashing this month and no longer have unlimited vibraphone access. I've gotten used to just walking over and playing any time, so this is quite an unwelcome change. Now I go to the nearby university to practice, so my hours are limited :(

Marie's Pictures - Meetings in Paris
In this album, I'll get together all the pictures of the great meetings I had with vibists near my home. Most of them being taken from the same place: in front the Invalides Dome in Paris, near my work. Enjoy! :o)

Good Vibes radio August update
Hi Everyone,
I hope some of you were able to tune in to the last Good Vibes on July 7th and 10th.
Time to gear up for August's broadcasts, on the 4th and 7th. Two vibes players make their debuts on Good Vibes in August, Micah Rutschman and Smith Dobson. I continue to play tracks from Behn's latest, Top Shelf, and Bobby Hutcherson's CD Linger Lane. This month I introduce Tony's new CD Can't Find My Way Home with the title track. I wish I had a weekly show just for that one!

Choro Dragão - Um a Zero
Hi All-
I've started a new band that explores Brazilian 'choro' tunes (pre-samba music somewhat akin to ragtime/New Orleans jazz) through the lenses of creative Brooklyn musicians who play a myriad of styles. This first video is my arrangement of 'Um a Zero,' an iconic tune of Pixinguiha's, which we infuse with a bit of 'downtown' energy and exploration.

Marie's Newsletter - July 2013
|
While Tony is out ‘spreading the good vibes’ down to Patagonia, some of us are much looking forward to the upcoming summer workshops, first July in Limerick – Ireland with our friend John Daly as host, then Delaware US early August.
Lessons this month are a bit out of our usual TOTMs, but still coming frequently… And to end this newsletter, we finally could watch some videos of our winter workshop of last February in Wuppertal – Germany, thanks to our host Matthias Goebel and his team.
Enjoy !

The "One Sheet" sharing my version and hoping others will share theirs..
I read with interest Tony's description of what he calls a "One Sheet" and realized that this was something I occasionally (certainly not always) do while studying a tune. I thought I'd post my version and see if others have similar variations on the "One Sheet" theme. I began doing this when I realized that, getting older, I would discover things on the vibes and then forget them by the time I came back for another practice. This was my way to organize my thoughts on a single "guide" page. Sometimes I spend more time figuring this stuff out on paper than actually practicing it....
Old Bars new tricks
Hi All
Recently I discovered what was advertised as a mid sixties Musser Century Vibraphone available in Carson City Nevada
(about 300 long miles from my home in the Bay Area) I had to make a hard decision (if I was going to make that long drive just to check out this instrument.) What I remember of these old instruments is that the bars are beautifully rich, loud, smooth and somehow different then newer Musser bars. My instrument has been a mid 70's A440 Provibe that I have always loved the sound of and that has been my sound on the vibraphone for 20 years.
