Hi all.

I hoping for a little advice and suggestions on how to handle sus chords. I have to say, I'm not always sure which tones are the most important, and I find that when I'm reading through pop tunes, sus chords appear a lot. Not sure how best to handle.

Is there somewhere on the site where this is covered and I'm just missing it?

Thank you!
Al

i don't think we've ever talked about sus chords!!!

i'll make a note.

here's a synopsis.

technically a sus chord is a major chord. you just play the 4th instead of the third. so when you play maiden voyage the scales that go with those sms chords are mixolydian.

Csus is a major scale

Csus7 is a mixolydian scale.

lots of times the 4th gets resolved to the 3rd.

Csus / Cmaj

look at this

Gmin7 / C7b9 / Fmaj7

sort of the same as

Csus7 / C7b9 / Fmaj7

get it?

Yes, got it. Thank you. Makes sense. 4th (in the Csus) is the 7th (in the Gmin7). The chords look very similar. This helps!

some people right Cmin9 sus, to me a minor chord can't be a suspended because there's no suspension.

Cmin9sus is just a Cminor11
