Nico at VDP has now released his vibraphone "leslie" style amp. This looks interesting but I already have a good, small amp that I use with a malletkat (and in a few months with a fabulous new VDP gigvibe with pickups).
Does any body have any suggestions about Leslie style stomp boxes that can do a good version of the vibes motor-on sound ?
The Neo Ventilator has come to my attention, though it seems a bit pricey and I have not heard one with vibes. Demos on the web for these sorts of things are predictably by guitarists.

Same as with a regular leslie, problem with the Ventilator is that it does only 2 speeds, of which the slow speed is OK, but the high speed not workable.
Another problem with the leslie, is the routing of the 800+ Hz to the high horn, and the 800- Hz routed to the lower rotor. With the ventilator this is perfectly simulated, and therefor not suitable for a vibe.
You might get better result with a regular FX-processor, where you can assign more parameters.
I myself used the leslie effect from a Behringer DSP2024 unit before I had the new PRV amp.

I look at it this way - as an organ player, I tend to really notice the difference between the Leslie "effect" and the Leslie "experience" that I obtain using a real Leslie, meaning that the latter tends to fill a room with the three-dimensional sound of the mighty Hammond. I tend to see the new VdP cabinet as applying the same principle to the vibes; it's about creating a 3-dimensional vibes experience in a room as opposed to a direct vibe sound similar to what a horn player would do.
This isn't to say that the direct sound is bad at all, but more that I see the cabinet as offering a different approach to playing the vibes in a different way to fill a room with the vibes as opposed to a sound that originates from a direct location on the bandstand.
