I Wonder?

Do women play this instrument with more natural emotion then men?

This girl seems pretty young and pretty expressive in the piece. Seems like an intermediate student, but I saw something in the piece and then thought about other female players and wondered if it's easier for them to be expressive on an instrument that's naturally not that expressive.

Tell me I'm nuts, but I'm just thinking out loud. I always thought women should run the world. They didn't grow playing war, they'd probably find some other solutions to things that guys would never think of.

On Green Dolphin Street

This was recorded three days ago with "Caz" Cazorla, the guitar player who works with me (still in the hope that we might land a gig someday). Caz comes down for an hour in his lunch break (he has a quick sandwich) and we usually have time to do one tune. The bass is a real track (set 55, "fast bebop"), and I double on vibes and drums.

All of Me exercise

Hi guys ! As a player, I'm still pretty much shooting in the dark, in a hit-and-miss sort of way. Lately I've been busy ready Forward Motion, by Hal Galper, a book that I think will do something for me. It's pretty heavy stuff, like a PhD of sorts. The book concerns itself with target notes and how to approach them. There are hundreds of exercices. Fortunately, you can hear the written examples with a program called Myriad Music, which comes with the book. It is often said that jazz can't be learnt from books, and that's certainly true. But books can help.
