Gary Burton Quartet with guest Red Norvo
I don't know if this performance has been previously posted, but I just found it on YouTube and really enjoyed it. Red and Gary play on just one vibe (sometimes together, which looks a bit cramped!) and do nice version of Back Home in Indiana.
It's interesting to see the 2 playing styles displayed so well.

Invitation by BarryK
Inspired by all of the different versions on this site, I am working on Invitation. Here is one of tonight's practice recordings.
I am working on comping and articulation. I also took a stab at soloing.
I used the motor for this one. I put it on the slowest speed, but I think it is a little to fast.
Comments appreciated.

Philly Vibraphone Workshop
The Philly workshop was amazing! The idea of traveling to a new city and spending 2 days in a room with 10 – 12 people I had never met before on top of not really knowing anything about playing jazz in the traditional sense made me a little nervous. Then getting up in front of really heavy players to show off my beginner chops scared me to death. However, I have to say I felt so welcomed and supported the entire time I was there. It was truly an amazing experience. My highlight was hearing Joe talk about the inspiration for his tune, Verrazano Moon.

ECM Records
Over the last few days, Tony and I have exchanged several emails discussing several CD’s we both grew up with, including two of Gary’s that are currently out of print – Easy As Pie and Picture This. And as one might imagine, one idea leads to another and eventually there are a bunch of theories that beg for clarification. Among those are the inner workings of ECM Records.

Within a Page (Lesson and solo vibe arrangement)
"Within a Page" is one of my favorites. I wrote it while working on a page out of my sight reading book called "Shapes and Patterns of Music". The title comes after spending weeks on a single line trying to develop it into a song. When I finally came up with a "song" (that I really love), I realized that there was SO MUCH music and work that went into this small page of music. So I titled it "Within A Page". After coming up with the arrangement for solo vibes, I thought I'd offer it along with a lesson on how to play it. So, here it is in PDF download form. I hope you enjoy it.
