Forum Topic: Need help with my new Malletkat ...

hey everyone .. i just received my malletkat pro today. Very excited to be back playing mallets and equally excited to be playing on mario's malletkat pro 6.

from the start it was easy to plug into reason 4 and start immediatly using the sounds. however i must solve a transposition issue with the vibe sound on the nnxt module inside of reason.

i must admit im a little challenge when reading manuels and understand the flow of the book.. so with that in minde .. HOw do i transpose the malletkat down 2 octaves? the patch i have on reason is way too tinny.

Forum Topic: Motor talk

Hi All-

My motor troubles have had me thinking about that aspect of the instrument; been wondering what it means to YOU.

It's a funny thing; one of the last truly mechanical effects being used in contemporary music; that and the B3 with a Leslie are the only ones I can think of.

Forum Topic: Mallet Samples

Hello everyone!

I would like to ask if somebody knows a good sampler module with good sounds of vibes and marimba (probably for using electronic mallet system). I'm mainly interested in hardware, but if anyone knows some good (free/cheap) software it will be good information too.

Thanks!

Forum Topic: More on amplification & getting a natural sound

Hi all,

I wanted to start a new thread here, since I wasn't sure how long I'd go on with this.... I had more thoughts about the amplification issues that were again raised, and especially Ted's post about the Deagan instrument with mics inside each resonator. I had an idea about doing that when I was younger, and I never knew there was a production instrument made with such as system.

Forum Topic: Marimba mallet recommendations

Hi All- Wondering if anyone can make a suggestion about makes and models of soft to med. soft marimba mallets worth buying. I've got a marimba now, and I have a student I'm working on with a rolling piece, and my always-sound-great-on-the-vibes Mike Balter Arthur Lipner mediums are not the right thing. I prefer rattan handles and don't like them too ridiculously long; beyond that, please suggest away, thanks. (And if what I really want IS long, birch-handled mallets, please tell me so, and why.)

Forum Topic: Recording yourself

i don't have anything good for recording myself, so i'm looking for something with good audio recrding. i'm thinking probably just audio, some sort of portable recorder. but if there's anything that has video too i wouldn't be opposed to it. something around $100-$200 or so is what i was thinking. thanks for any info on this!

Forum Topic: AMT or Rodes NT5

Which of these microphones would you recommend and why?

1. Rodes NT5
2. AMT 404

Can anyone tell me what distinguishes one from the other?
I think they both come in matched pairs.
They are both polar cardiod condensor mics with near equivalent SPL level, THD, and sensitivty.
The frequency response from the Rode does go to 20hz. But for vibes this just means undesirable rumble.

The AMT costs $239 per pair I think. (Tony: There is no unit of measure at the store)
The Rode is around $450.

Has anyone done a sound comparison?
