In Day 2, you will start to notice the use of a few chromatic notes and approach tones. The line is similar and still pretty diatonic. Take notice of the surround tones in M4. You will see lines like this all the time in bebop where there's half step approaches to notes.

Here are some beautifully improvised choruses by Gary which were recorded during a 1985 clinic in Argentina. Gary was talking about improvising with motives. Gustavo had this tape of the clinic and transcribed the choruses from the clinic.

A very simple idea, but check out the pdf and work this through all the keys.

If you're more advanced try and figure ways to solo on this as well.
