I'll Remember April - Latin version (in progress)
In my classes this week we are focusing on Latin American music styles, so I figured it was time to record a Latin version I'll Remember April to share with my students. Lots to learn still. Enjoy!

At the pop-up class on Monday we spent some time discussing diminished harmony, and I shared this "OctaTowers" chart (very similar if not the same as the diminished access system). Behn also posted a lesson on diminished harmony, which is what led us into this discussion.

I’m finding this site very motivating.

There are 4 files here.
This section deals with the first part of Caravan.
C7 for 6 bars then Fmin
But I broke this into small chunks to work on the basics of the A sections.
We talk about using the Alt scale on a 7th chord to get to the minor. You can also use what's called a Spanish Phrygian
Sometimes on the A section people play C7b9 to Dbmaj9 for the 6 bars and then resolve to Fmin
Sometimes people C7b9 using Spanish Phrygian (this is just F harmonic minor from C in this case).
Sometimes people play C7b9 to an Fmin maj 7 (melodic minor scale).
MAKE SURE YOU ALSO GET TO ABOUT 15:00 MINUTES. It's amazing.
As a following to one of the last topics about piano, guitar or drums as models for vibists, i found that video who took me completely off-guard.
Dorothy Ashby was a jazzwoman playing HARP ! And to my biggest surprise, i discovered that finally jazz harp is very close to vibraphone. Same long notes to dampen, same fight to get a good jazz phrasing, and chords sounding very close to the way they sound on vibes.
Hey all,
I hope this is the right place to post this - this is my first time actually making a post. With all the work we've been doing on I'll Remember April I thought to share an arrangement I've been making of it. It's by no means done or even close to done but I thought it'd be great to share and get some feedback.
