Friedman etude no.7
Hi everyone,
I am about to embark on the dissertation stage of my Ethnomusicology PhD program and my topic will be within the realm of music and disability studies (I know what you're thinking Tony, we just were talking about my other topic a few months ago, but long story short I had to change). I haven't chosen a specific topic yet but I would of course like to do something related to percussion if possible.
"Crystal Silence" composed by Chick Corea. A classic from Chick and Gary Burton from their great ECM album recorded in 1972. The recording has stood the test of time and still sounds fresh today. I hadn't played this in quite awhile. It was one of the first songs that I learned in lessons with Gary starting in '73.
A little late night session working on the sabbatical project. This a minor blues on John Coltrane’s “Mr. PC”. Solo vibe techniques include left hand comping mixed with one/two hand lines and right hand octaves. Improv techniques include Pentatonics, Upper Structure Triads, Motivic Playing and Side Slipping. All concepts from my improv series The Complete Guide to Improvisation available from Amazon. Apologies for the dark lighting.
It's sort of a step 1.

Agarras dos acordes menores a una distancia de 4ta justa, por ejemplo Fa menor (que va a Sib menor [...]
A slightly Barry Harris-inspired block chord melody of "There Will Never Be Another You."
Some Benny Green piano vocabulary adapted to the vibraphone.
This version is, I hope a little more present.
