Another 92 Year Old Vibe Player

Any of you guys remember Angelo? He played vibes until he was I think 94 or 96. There are some posts on here about him. Pretty amazing.

Here's a 92 year old vibe player! These are inspiring to me because I will have to play and gig till I kick! So! I like to see 92 year old vibe players out there working!

Accountability! From the "Big Book" and the Phila Workshop

Hi folks.

Trying to get back into a groove with practicing after a crazy schedule upon my return from the workshop, which was beyond excellent in every way (meeting new friends, learning, sharing, fun!)

Not to bore you to death - this is for my own accountability. I have (or will) add minor and dom 7ths to this. Running through the cycle as Tony encouraged us to do during the workshop. It's a great concentration type exercise too.

Of note is how much noise this old M55 makes with each beat. Ugh.

Hacking away!

Angel Eyes - Alternate Solo Vibe version

Alternate solo vibraphone version of the classic "Angel Eyes" using some improv and voicing concepts from The Complete Guide to Improvisation and Voicing Concepts for the Jazz Vibist. Fun and challenging for me to work on these concepts. It's one thing writing about the concepts and it's another to get them down where they are fluid, spontaneous and natural.

Good Vibes on the Radio, September 2018

Time

Hey All,
Here's the scoop on the September Good Vibes.
New this month - Joe Doubleday. Don't know how he escaped me for so long! If you find I'm not playing your favorite vibes player or there's someone new recording, please let me know.

Steve Nelson gets two tunes this month, from two different albums, David Friedman from his newest, a solo by Ted (Piltzecker), a standard from Terry (Gibbs), Joe on Eddie Palmieri's latest, Tony in a duet with Diane Monroe, and Dimitri Matheny's gorgeous rendering of Neil Young's "Harvest Moon" in the Where Jazz Goes mini-segment.
