Here is part 2 of chordal playing. 

It's playing in 3rds. Someting I like to do. The trick is to learn what you can and can not do with this, because you can't do everything. So you learn rythyms and phrases that you can do and try to stick around that. 

Here's another sort of technique. I just call this Bill Evans Style. I'm sure all pianists do it but I noticed it listening to him.

Here is a lesson with an etude. I use the tune Green Dolphin Street and I play a chordal solo. There's very little that monophonic here. I tried to hit always with 2,3 or 4 mallets. 

I played a few choruses of Green Dolphin Street and transcibed it. 

I also talk about little bit about this series. I will continue it by doing a video for each of the technical ways I am doing this.

The big enemy in live sound with an instrument like the vibes is feedback.  That’s not just the horrible screeching sound when it gets out of control, however.  It’s those weird resonances that happen when you play certain notes in certain rooms with certain mics in certain positions.

This is video, audio and a pdf all with etudes for the tune Turn Out The Stars by Bill Evans. 

It's a complicated tune, but I always think even the complicated tunes spell all the harmony out. It all makes sense musicially.

This will take a little explaining. 

First we had a zoom meeting with microphone designer Ron Oswanski. He used to work for Amt microphones and is now out on his own and has made a beautiful vibe microphone so I had him come and talk about it.

That's the easy part to explain the hard part is what happens next. If you don't know what Google Notebook LM is you need to check it out it's mind blowing.
