Delaware 2012 Registration Page

Here is the registration for Delaware. Flyers are going out this week. Then it becomes first come first serve since all this is done electronically. If you're thinking of coming, now is the time.

Sounds like it's going to be a great week. Mario from Alternate Mode has a lot of great players coming in including Samuels.

We have Friedman coming in (hoping for a Double Image concert) and i think a few other players. So this will be a great week.

Maiden Voyage by Thomas Mackay Trio (Tease in Ashland Oregon )

Greetings, i found this video of the last gig i did on vibes. after listening to the recording i can definately hear some of the concepts i had been working on. Ive always been influenced by the the live in seattle session of coltrane and eric dolphy.

in tunes like maiden voyage that are basically two chords, or wat i hear them often as two tonal centers. the concept of moving shapes of sound as always so very interesting to see wat soundscapes and emotion can be created ..

Forum Topic: Mbira Song

Hi all,

I have been working on a 4 mallet marimba solo called Mbira song. I have been enjoying learning this wonderful piece. However, i was wondering if anyone here has either played the piece or has any tips on it. Its a great marimba solo and i reccomend it to anyone looking for a nice marimba solo.

Thanks,

Forum Topic: Thinning the herd- lots o' mallets for sale

Hey Folks,
It's spring cleaning and I'm thinning the herd- I've got so many sets of mallets accumulated of the years which I'm not using. I was obsessed with trying to find the right vibe mallets at one point. I even went to Steve Weiss one day and spent hours checking out every single model. Dont car to admit how much $ I've spent on mallets, this is only a small lot of what I have. All of these are in good to like new shape. Some of them have only been played on once or twice.

Here's what I have in the initial round; (see photo attachment)

Liebeslied - Ed Saindon & Matt Marvuglio

Guys, this was recorded from a concert we did in Gloucester, MA this past Friday. The band features Matt Marvuglio on flute, Nori Shiota on bass and Jazz Robertson on drums. Nori and Jazz are Berklee students and Matt is the Dean of the Performance Division. The idea was to get a group together featuring faculty and students. Matt called me to see if I would be interested and I said sure. It was for a great cause. The concert was the first concert of a 10 concert series in Gloucester that is raising money for a scholarship fund at the school. We had a fun night with a sold out crowd.

Bending Vibraphone Pitch Up - April 1, 2012 by BarryK

I always thought that pitch bending the vibraphone was an interesting technique, but I don't really like it. I recently figured out why. It changes the pitch lower. It is a kind of sad sound to me. In contrast, guitarists bend pitch up by stretching the guitar strings. That is a happier sound to me.

To lower the pitch on a vibraphone, you get a hard rubber mallet, press it on the node (at the string), hit the bar with another mallet, then move the hard mallet towards the center of the bar.
