So here's a way we can pay tribute to Gary. Consider this his retirement card.
In the comments, post whatever you want. Play for him, talk about him, post anything. If you have a photo of you and him, send it to me and I'll post it under your name on the page.
When we build this up, I'll invite Gary over to see it. He used to be on the site all the time, but these days I think he's phasing it all out so he won't see this I think.
"I'm A Fool To Want You" - working today on this classic song written in 1951 by Frank Sinatra, Jack Wolf and Joel Herron. Using my Vic Firth M39 mallets on a Yamaha vibe. I'm pleased with the sound and feel of the new mallets. Enjoying the nuance and subtleties at a soft dynamic level while still sounding full. (My apology for the squeaky pedal. I'll have to bring some oil next time. :) )
Healthly stride vibes playing ! Enjoy
A one chorus solo version of the melody to "You Don't Know What Love Is" recorded during a private lesson today at Berklee.
Here vibes played with real brazilian rythm and feel. Not so often ...
About 10 of you guys did the mini concerts. That's great for us to come together like that. It feels a little like we performed together. So....
What if we pick a tune and all study it together with goals each week. It could even be beginner, intermediate and advanced goals. The point is we all practice together and post our work as if it's a lesson. Which it sort of is right?
What do you guys think?
We are start playing solo don't we :-). We spend a lot of time playing by ourselves! Esp when we begin.
Check out Jonathan Kreisberg's video on his solo cd (which I can't find on iTunes :-( )
Philosophically it's very interesting!
