Les Blachut reminded me of Red's b-day March 31st. I searched and found this video of him from 1982. The man is not too young, but I love his relaxed playing, youth in his eyes and attitude, and visible fun on his face!

But jeez... though I see no cell, isn't that pick up sound?! If so how cool from a man who was born in 1909 to go through all those changes with a kid's smile!!

Happy Belated B-day Mr Norvo! :o)

When I first encountered modes I felt a little overwhelmed. I had been working hard to really learn all the major and minor scales and thought that would be all the scales I'd need to learn. But no! I discover there are lots of other scales that are important, if not vital, to playing jazz.

Any ideas for beginners lessons. Tjaco has offered to crank some out and I can do some. I'm also checking out a couple guys that specialize in beginning mallets for some lessons.

If you are a beginner, what would you like to see? I know we need more beginners lessons up here, and so we might as well customize them to you!

Face Book is wonderful... and so is Gary Rich who sent me to Chuck Redd, my latest vibes discovery!! What a smoking performance from all musicians! I love that "dislocated" introduction and this powerfull swing so present all throug the tune!! Wow!! Here's to the two mallet vibe guys!! ;-)

Here a perfect (as usual) vibe solo of Gary Burton, with a very good natural sound, showing what music can be out of stage performance !
It was recorded in Italy, in a percussion school. What I like, aside of music by itself, is that Gary plays as if he was in front of a 10,000 people audience. That shows us the way !

Hearing a post of Tony with the young guitarist Andreas Vorady made me remember this video of young (13 years old at that time) pianist Gady Lehavi playing Autumn Leaves with Dave Liebman. What's incredible is his maturity in harmony. Enjoy !

I was just thinking about Dim's ability to process criticism without ego and turn it into immediate positive results. Of course it's a credit to him as a passionate musician/student(But isn't that what we are? Musicians and life long students?) It's also a credit to Tony for creating this wonderful platform where we all can present our work, exchange ideas and enjoy the fruits of constructive criticism. This should serve as a motivation for all Vibesworkshoppers to post as often as possible.
