JazzBaltica 1999 - Bag's Groove - Bobby and Milt are back!!!

I'm totally thrilled!!!

I just had a little chat on Facebook with Mike Ledonne... and he told me that he did that great thing of putting back those incredible vids of JazzBaltica 1999, with those beautiful duets between Milt and Bobby!!

Isn't that magical?!!!

Enjoy the good old vibe back!!!

Hallelujah by Franck Tortiller

Beautiful!

This is how started my day... Could have been worth, huh?

I only truly recognized the tune around the end, but it's even better I think. I love the "shadowed" intro, the feeling all through the piece, the loneliness and intensity of the moment, the "blue" colors, the "giving" attitude... the "crying" motor speed.

Franck is a French master and a member here... and of course a very busy one. I hope he can pay us a little visit one of these days.

Enjoy,

The Bluesette Hang

I'm totally digging the TOTM. I feel like we're all studying together. That's the difference. You can find anything on youtube, but this is turning out to be a sort of school isn't it? Everybody working and learning together. Talking about stuff. It's kind of like a collective unconcious or some sort of Yungean thing. There's a bunch of us going around thinking about Bluesette during the day and digesting it all. Now that's cool and fun. Hey?

Marco Bianchi - Fun with vibes, friends and more!

I just had a great chat with Marco Bianchi, an Italian vibist who is member here, even if seldom online.

He told me he was preparing a new album with music in the Zappa style. He's also working on a TV show with 2 friends. They make little sketches... and sometime record humorisitic tunes. I made a little search and here is the tune I felt like sharing with you. Marco plays mallets, drum and keyboard.

Maybe this song will be a bit long for some of you. So I selected a few "spots":

- 0'00: great vibes part, funny images!
- 2'39: just watch, it's "fresh"! ;-)
- 5'23: I love it!

Yet another Randy rant

The Jason Marsalis posting touched on this and brought me back to thinking about it; I have been working on this addition to the Theory section of my website for a few months, trying to get my head around it... typically for me, it's too long and not completely clear yet. But, I thought I would put it out here for comment to see if I can clean it up a bit..

The prior part it refers to is both posted here on VW in its original form and in its new, improved form (Thanks to all who commented) on my site. http://www.randysutin.com/subpage.html

Aesthetics geeks enjoy!!

Here's Why I'm Posting This

When I stumbled upon this video today, I personally was drawn into it. I imagine it will have mixed reactions here on the site. I guess the guy is in a Mozart type of vibe. Ok, cool.

Listen to this in regards to comping and playing changes on the vibes. I say that because that's what happened to me while I was listening to it. There are sections where I think the voice leading is so smooth and the question and answer lines are really beautiful.

I found a study in listening to this, and besides the guy writes a nice melody even if it's too this or that.

So annoying!

So I've discovered, Gary Burton and Joe Locke are both performing on the same night, in London! What kind of bad planning was that?! And to make it infinitely worse, my college have their concert on that night!! Urgh, so irritating! Wish I could go and see both those guys!
