Hi All,
June is shaping up with two new (to me) vibes players, Phil Kraus and Mitch Shiner. I'll open with Christian Tamburr who I met recently at the memorial ceremony for Bob Masteller. Christian flew in from Las Vegas to be there. I really enjoyed seeing, hearing and meeting him. The occasion was a fantastic celebration for the life of Masteller, owner of the Jazz Corner in Hilton Head. Non-stop musicians and music all afternoon from some of the very best.
This clip shows some simple examples to get a pseudo-salsa piano comping sound on the vibes. I've included a basic idea and a few variations. The last example is more of an exercise or short etude, and a transcript pdf file of that one is attached.

Easy commute today on the way into Boston so I had some practice time before a lesson. In this clip I'm playing Horace Silver's classic ballad Peace. One of the techniques that I was thinking about was playing counterpuntal lines in different registers of the instrument along with the use of various dampening techniques.
My apologies for the bad sound. It was recorded on my Iphone.

Aloha Vibesworkshop,
This is my first attempt for a video lesson, via my GoPro Hero aka the entry level gopro.
I have been coming to the vw since 2007 and remember one of the first lessons that tony put up with the vibes in front of the washer and dryer .. Bravo to tony and everyone who continually makes this site a great place to connect..
For the past couple years I have been blessed to get back my career as a vibist. ( had to give up playing due to health and hand problems ).... its a blessing to be back and playing with no pain.
