Ed Saindon Paris Clinic/Concert

Hi everyone,

I'll be giving a clinic and concert (co-sponsored by Vic Firth and Yamaha) at the Conservatory in Paris (18th District) on Thursday, May 7th starting at 7 P.M. The concert will feature mallet player Philippe Mace and me in a duo format performing originals and standards. Clinic topics will include: The Fulcrum Grip, Pedaling, Dampening, Sticking Concepts, Jazz Improvisation, Comping and Solo Playing.

Communicating with drummers who can't read

Hi All,

I play regularly with a few drummers who can't read music, one most of the time and a couple of others on a fairly regular fill-in basis. I've been trying to get us to do some more formal arrangements of tunes -- nothing terribly complicated, just some accent points and rhythm breaks, added interludes and the like, although I'd like to get more complicated. I've been having trouble communicating these things to the drummers though.

Ok here I go:

First of all, the drummer in me was very early and I was hitting a tambourine along with musicians in my house when I was only 3 years old. My mother and Father where both musicians. My mother still sings, but my father hasn't played guitar or sung in a long time.
