Fabrizio Fratepietro and "Reseau" – Hip Vibes for the future?

Hi all,

I was checking our newbies, and saw this guy from Perugia: Fabrizio Fratepietro. I thought: wow, Perugia, one of the European capitals of jazz!

He had the good idea to put his myspace link. I went there and listened to the first sample...

Wow! I thought we were right in the discussion "Competition Part 2": that's quite modern hip music, groovy, with vibes, trumpet, etc… and that cool vibraphone comping and even solo. And there are lyrics sang as a rap (huh?) and the guy sings in a perfect French (huh?!). And guess what is the subject of this first tune: clones! Haha! :o)

Accordion in Jazz and World Music – A serious matter

A cliché Tony pointed out inspired me on this post: "Accordion is old fashion. People make easily fun of it".

Like most people, I used to think so… up to the day I met some French masters. With Gary we talked about Astor Piazzola and French Richard Galiano. I'd like to present you two other masters from my country.

Francis Varis:
He used to teach in a school near my home, where a good friend made me know him. He plays with guitarist Titi Robin, a multi-instrumentist, specialised in "eastern" guitars like oud, bouzouk…

Milt - blind fold test from 1988

searching through music files today i came across a Down Beat magazine from 1988 and started paging through it - attatched is a PDF
Milt did the Blind Fold test in this issue, (where they play current artists and try to guess) and his comments really caught my attention...then again his comments always get my attention, so thought i would post it up here.

Serpent's Tooth (Victor Feldman) - Transcription of vibes solo by Florian Poser

Hey vibes-men and -women,

please look at the video in "HQ" and "full screen size"!
Then you can listen to the original solo and read the music as SIBELIUS-score. The cursor always shows you where you are.
Now I checked out how to upload the PDF-file to my post - so you can get it directly from here:

Where in the world is Joe Locke?

This question was just asked by Ed Saindon on a post today… well I have news!

Yes, Joe is less on the site than he used to be, but who doesn’t know about his crazy life and agenda? On his itinerary, we can see he will be touring in Europe in July, but I’m sure he’s just very busy with all kinds of terrific projects (which I have no ideas about!). :o)

But there is a great news about him: yesterday evening, he won for the second time the prestigious JJA Jazz Award as Mallet Player of the Year!
